Efficiency Audits: 53 Indoor Ice Rinks

Following the successful completion of our project reviewing outdoor ice rink facilities, DSR Systems was given the opportunity to continue working with the City of Toronto on 53 indoor ice rink facilities as well. The project involved the review of the ice rink refrigeration systems, dehumidification and Zamboni services. The current condition of all system components at each facility were assessed and compiled into state of good repair reports formatted to the City’s standards to assist with capital planning to maintain the desired level of operational capability of the City’s assets into the future. Further, the operation of each system was reviewed for inefficiencies and reports were developed including strategies to reduce energy usage and better harness existing capabilities while maintaining or improving system performance. Methods of reducing natural gas consumption and overall GHG emissions for each facility were also discussed. Recommendations were provided for implementation at each facility and items requiring attention were organized by priority.
