System Design: Meadowvale Four Rinks

With most major system components past their useful service life, the refrigeration system at the Meadowvale Four Rinks Arena was in dire need of renovation. The City of Mississauga retained DSR to determine the extent of the upgrades required and develop the necessary equipment selections and designs. The DSR team developed a retrofit design for the existing mechanical room space utilizing the existing equipment that remained in good condition while replacing the rest. The upgrades improved system efficiency by introducing new equipment and heat reclaim technologies while substantially reducing the system ammonia charge. Additionally, DSR designed upgrades to the mechanical room to bring it in line with the latest building code and CSA B-52 standards including HVAC replacement, room fire rating improvements and installation of a protective vestibule. From problem definition and design, through the tender process and up to final commissioning, DSR provided effective and timely support to the City allowing for the successful completion of the project.
